You know, I never had anonymous turned on for years when I first got tumblr. I turned it on maybe a month ago… For no reason really.
I’m grateful that the anon messages I’ve had have been polite, well formed and from people who clearly feel strongly enough about what I’ve posted to comment.
It’s a shame you feel like you have to be anonymous! I wouldn’t ever judge you for your opinion. I’m glad you have one.
People disagree with me all the time, I’m happy for you to do it with your name on it.

I don't feel anger at terrible things or a whole lot of emotion in general. It's one thing to feel emotionally outraged at something and everyone, it's another to be desensitised and still care. People DO care about a whole bunch of issues. We just pick which issues to shout the loudest at and that cannot possibly be all of them.

It doesn’t sound harsh and you’re entitled to your views in any case. I think you’ve misinterpreted the point I was trying to make, or maybe I’ve not been eloquent enough to make it.
Being desensitised due to a trauma is not the same as not caring because its happening to someone else, or it won’t happen to you, or it’s just on the TV or in the papers and its not real life enough. I’m sorry if my post made it sound like it is.
My point isn’t ignoring victims. In fact quite the opposite. My anger comes from the “these things happen” attitude that comes with so much of what we see or hear about (and even what we don’t) in the news. These things do happen, but all the while we sit here and feel nothing and do nothing, people get hurt. People hurt people. Lives are ruined. Families, homes, reputations, whole areas are destroyed.
I’m not ok with sitting back and letting “these things happen” without voicing my opinion.

In response to the other part of your ask, I agree when you say people are self centred. But I do believe in change, and I do believe in better. Oh, and I don’t feel superior. I feel incredibly lucky, and thankful that I am able to sit here and type this from the safety and comfort of my home. I feel grateful to be able to study sociology and to think in ways I didn’t were possible just two years ago.

I just wanted to let you know that the BBC actually said, "It's not necessarily clear to tell but one of the suspects didn't look muslim, well as you would imagine them to look. There's no indication that the suspects were Muslim and in the video footage the main suspect, brandashing a weapon, can be heard speaking in a strong London accent" They were actually discussing that the only thing indicating Muslim connection was the words spoken. Easy mistake though, but the BBC didn't say that :)

The live report that I was watched at around 5.30pm, and I am 100% sure those were the words that were said. No, I’m 98% sure - it was either descent or origin or maybe even appearance. If I was inclined I’d go back and check, but I’ve voiced my opinion and that’s where I’ll leave it.
I mean, there was a lot of discussion for hours afterwards, so I’m sure that what you’re saying is right.
Live reporting is hard, and people make mistakes and they say things because its so ingrained in our society. That doesn’t make it ok. That said, I generally support the BBC and it’s unusual for me to comment in this way about them.
Even regardless of whatever anyone specifically said, this goes beyond one news report, one incident. A lot of people rely on the media to give them an opinion about something. That makes the media an incredibly dangerous weapon, and one that is used carelessly sometimes.

Thank you for your comment though, I’m glad that further (presumably later) discussion was better phrased.
